Team eam Kill-N-Me is proud to report a record-breaking catch - Josh Poe hauled in his first sailfish off the coast of Georgia using HI-SEAS line on Shimano reels. Weighing in at over 110 lb., it breaks the Georgia state record. It was a good day for all, as the team hauled in seven dolphin and a nice cobia.
Here's what Josh had to say about it:
"My buddies Corey Bessent and Chris "Fuzzy" Germano, my father Howard Poe, past SKA National Champion, my stepmother Donna Gowen Poe, captain of the "Contendress" all women’s SKA National Champion team, and I headed to the Gulf Stream out of St. Simons Island, GA bright and early. It was a beautiful day and it didn't take long for us to reach our destination. We even made time to stop and catch a few dolphin on our way out. We throttled down and set our lines and that's when I hooked up with my first sailfish. He hit a naked ballyhoo on the long line. I was fishing with a 50W Shimano Tiagra with 80lb test. I was making my morning sandwich when the reel started screaming, so I dropped everything and jumped on the rod. With no straps or fighting belt, it was a little strenuous, but I managed, and got him to the boat. The fight lasted about 35 minutes. Finally, he was close enough to the boat where my buddy "Fuzzy" could grab the leader. I handed the reel off to my father so I could help Corey and "Fuzzy" lift him into the boat. Once he was landed, it was picture time!!"
